Artist Demo: Handmade Folk Art Dolls

Learn the art and history of making dolls.

Denise McQuinn of McQuinna’s Cupboard will share the rich history of folk art dolls and demonstrate her craft of doll making at 2 p.m. on June 13 during Market Square Wholesale Shows at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center.

Denise and her husband, Mike, run their business in Wauseon, Ohio, where Denise handcrafts their folk art products. Although she creates several styles of folk art pieces, the artist demonstration will focus on her unique primitive dolls. Because dolls have captivated the human imagination for centuries, Denise’s presentation will give buyers an opportunity to learn and ask questions about the complex life and times of a folk art doll.

“We admire the authenticity of handcrafted work in Denise’s dolls,” says Kathy Goodrich, president of Market Square. “Each one of her pieces has incredible attention to detail. From the stitching and staining to the selection of the fabric for each creation.”

Other artists participating in the series of demonstrations include Camden Pottery/Johnson Gallery, Loomination, Angel of Heart, Honey Brook Woodcrafts, and Christopher’s Creative Designs.

Market Square’s wholesale show in Valley Forge/Oaks, Pennsylvania will run from June 13-15 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center and will include three wholesale ways to buy – order-writing, artisan gallery, and cash and carry.
