Artist Demo: Lux Aromatica’s Handmade Aromatherapy Candles

Learn the art behind handmade aromatherapy candles and skincare.

Eco-conscious and health-aware husband and wife duo, Kerensa and Brian Bertolino of Lux Aromatica hand craft in small batches their line of aromatherapy candles, lotions, perfumes, soaps and various other toiletries. They will demonstrate their craft at Market Square Shows during an artist demonstration on Sunday, February 7th at 2 p.m. at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center.

“Fragrant Light” in Latin, Lux Aromatica designs formulas of lip balms, lotions and skin salves to lavish your skin, your largest organ, from natural ingredients such as essential oils, soy wax, beeswax, botanical butters and more. Soaps are lovingly handmade with hempseed oil, olive oil, cocoa butter and natural clay. Aromatherapy candles are crafted of earth-friendly ingredients while softening your mood with scents like French perfume, ice mint, lavender, lemongrass, rare earth, and spice island.

“We pour a little love into every candle, shaping it into an experience that feeds the senses, pleases the eye, and gives back to the earth,” says Kerensa. “Hand-pouring the warm wax is a lot like cooking. It is an act of love for the people being served. We want you to have something that is pleasing to the palate and eye, while it nourishes body and spirit”.

According to the National Candle Association, consumers are increasingly purchasing candles as a focal point for their home décor, and for aromatherapy-like relaxation and stress reduction. They note that candles are used in 70 percent of 10 U.S. households and fragrance is by far the most important characteristic impacting candle purchases today. Gift Shop Magazine points out in their article that candles offer an opportunity to create a spa-like atmosphere in the home.

“It is important for our shows to have an exhibitor as diverse as Lux Aromatica, who not only hand crafts their candles and lotions but is keeping in step with the consumer who want products that help them relax and be less stressed,” says Kathy Goodrich, president of Market Square. “Kerensa and Brian have done this with the aromatherapy and soothing qualities of their ingredients.”

For Lux Aromatica, what began as a dream to create products from their own lavendar farm in 2008 has grown into an apothecary that opened in 2014 in the historic Silk Mill building in Orange, Virginia. Market Square Shows is pleased to have them as demonstrating artists where buyers will have an opportunity to learn more about their techniques and engage in informal conversation about the artistic process. Other artist demonstrations will include ASL Pewter, Ridge Hollow Gameboards, Susan Daul Folk Art, The Country Shop, The little Emporium, Mud & Maker, and Lawrence Crouse Workshop.
