Artist Demonstration: Pottery by Jason Wolff

Pottery maker from Blacklist, Ohio demonstrates his work.

Jason Wolff of Jason Wolff Pottery will be demonstrating how he makes his functional and decorative stoneware pottery at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14 at Market Square Shows in Oaks, Pennsylvania.

Jason has been working with clay for over 25 years, and established his home studio in Blacklist, Ohio in 1998. He operates the studio along with his wife, Sara. “Our pottery is hand crafted, and meant to be functional – all items are food safe, oven and microwave safe, dishwasher safe, and uses lead free glazes, “ explains Jason. “Our goal is to create unique hand made pieces that will be cherished for years to come.”

After taking his first ceramics class when he was 9 or 10 years old, Jason was hooked. “I continued in the arts all through high school and started out as an Anthropology major with an art minor in college, but realized I was much better at throwing pots than I was a writing papers, so I made the switch to pursuing it full time,” says Jason during an interview Uncommon Goods.

The artist demonstrations create an opportunity for buyers to see the artistic process and ask questions while making buying decisions for their stores. “Seeing a potter make a usable item from a lump of clay before your eyes speaks to the talent and techniques the artist has learned and employs in hand-making their skillful products,” says Kathy Goodrich, president of Market Square.

Wolff is part of a series of six artist demonstrations planned throughout the 3-day wholesale show. Other artists participating in the demonstration series include Camden Pottery/Johnson Gallery, Loomination, McQuinna’s Cupboard, Angels of heART, and Christopher’s Creative Designs.
